Hubble Deep Field

An image made in December 1995 with the Hubble Space Telescope of a small area of sky in the constellation Ursa Major. Among the 1,500 galaxies recorded, some were as dim as thirtieth magnitude, the faintest ever seen. It was estimated that some would be ten billion light years away. The image was assembled from 342 separate exposures, effectively amounting to a continuous exposure 10 days long.
